Report: Amazon bought UK’s GameSparks for $10 million | Pocket

Amazon has purchased UK cloud development platform GameSparks for $10 million, according to a report.

It was already claimed in early July that Amazon had bought the backend-as-a-service provider, though no official confirmation has been forthcoming so far. It had been claimed that the sale was worth “tens of millions of pounds”.

Now TechCrunch claims, citing deal analytics firm Pitchbook, that the acquisition was worth around $10 million.

Two people close to the deal have said they are not yet able to speak about the acquisition after signing non-disclosure agreements.

Games expansion

GameSparks provides developers with a cloud-based development platform to build servers. It has worked with 10,000 developers including Ubisoft, Square Enix and Hutch Games across platforms, including mobile.

The firm would slot in with Amazon’s cloud division AWS, which is already used by games developers around the world.

Amazon already has a number of games-related tech and services, including games broadcasting service Twitch and its own toolset in Lumberyard.
