Perhaps the most important thing that ran up the installation tally was the fact that in December, Duo started to come pre-loaded on new Android handsets right out of the box. These still count as installations even if they are never activated or are later uninstalled. In addition, Duo works with both Android and iOS while FaceTime remains iOS only. The multi-platform capability means that if an iOS owner needs to video chat his Android totin’ buddies, or vice versa, Duo is the only app required.
Amit Fulay, who is the head of product for Allo and Duo, is obviously not one to stand on laurels. He disseminated a tweet stating that the app has been downloaded 100 million times in 11 months, and that there is “lots more to do.” And to give credit where credit is due, Fulay personally responded to each person who sent him a tweet in response to his original missive.
