GameMaker Studio 2 launches on MacOS | Pocket Gamer.biz

Game engine GameMaker Studio 2 has been launched on MacOS.

The development platform was launched in March 2017 for PC but has now also been officially made available for Mac users. The engine will retain all of its normal features and various updates released since launch.

As well as the MacOS launch, developer YoYo Games has released version 2.1 of the tech that includes an integrated debugger, multi-touch support to code on the go with Mac laptops, and the ability to selectively hide or expand sections of code.

Mac-ready

“We worked tirelessly to ensure GameMaker Studio 2’s Mac debut would coincide with the needs of game developers that prefer to use platforms outside of Windows and home consoles,” said James Cox, General Manager, YoYo Games.

“After months carefully considering the feedback we received from beta testing and direct community outreach, we’re confident that developers who prefer Mac can now feasibly create games on the often-ignored platform.

“We’re always looking for ways to expand game creation to as many developers as possible, and we know Mac users will make some stand-out games with these resources.”

PocketGamer.biz recently spoke to James Cox about GameMaker Studio 2 and the rise and rise of indie games.
