Capcom has revealed plans to absorb its Capcom Mobile subsidiary into the main business to increase the company’s overall competitiveness.
Capcom Mobile will be entirely dissolved on September 1st 2017. It is hoped that by absorbing the subsidiary, Capcom will make the business more efficient and make better use of its management resources.
The news comes as Capcom released its Q1 FY18 financials, in which it hardly mentioned its mobile business at all. It did note that its Switch game Ultra Street Fighter II had become a “smash hit” after an “excellent start”.
Into the fold
The company posted net sales of $105.6 million for the quarter, up 7.5% year-on-year. Profits came to $4.68 million, up from a loss of $12.7 million in its Q1 FY17.
Breaking this down further, its Digital Contents segment generated revenues of $69.1 million, up 14.1% year-on-year. Profits also rose to $15.1 million, compared to just $72,000 in Q1 FY17.
Capcom has recently been partnering with numerous mobile games and companies to advance its presence on the platform. It partnered with eSports company Skillz on its recent mobile Street Fighter game, and is participating in a Monster Hunter crossover event on GungHo’s Puzzle & Dragons.
